Leaving any place that you lived in for more than a few months is difficult. If the place you live in is great, then you build friendships and connect with the place – you simply feel at home. Now imagine the place you call home is also paradise! And I mean literally: Perfect weather, some of the friendliest people on the planet, consistent world-class waves and a fascinating blend of local and asian culture.
Just have a peak at my last glance out of the airplane and you can appreciate my last sentence that much more…
To cut it short, it never felt more difficult to board the airplane than this time (or maybe it always feels like this, but one just forgets the last heartache)….but I always remind myself:
The harder it is to leave the more meaningful and deeper your stay was.
Aloha e Hawai’i! Watching Oahu disappear, I could not help myself but to chant one of the ancient Hawaiian songs that I learned while calling the islands home:
E ho mai ka’ike mai luna mai e,
O na mea huna no’eau o na mele e,
E ho mai, E ho mai, E ho mai.
Aloha,
Marco
What a sweet farewell entry, Marco. The Islands miss you too.
