How to Become a World Traveler

How do you become a world traveler? …is a question that I get asked a lot.

And it’s not a questions that I can answer easily. My best and shortest answer I can give you is that I am a surfer to the very core.

Now what the hell does that mean…a surfer to the very core? It means that I have no problem giving everything I have for chasing an epic swell across Southern Africa and driving over 2000 Kilometers in two days just to surf world class waves. It means that I love to pour over swell forecast charts and tide tables just to feel like I’m Captain Planet when the swell, tide and wind align for a perfect surf session and I’m at that exact spot, surfboard under my arm.

Does that sound crazy to you? Well it might be crazy, but talk to anyone out there who shares the same passion for the ocean as I do, and I’m sure that person will not only fully agree with me but also tell you that it’s totally worth driving 10 hours straight to surf the best wave in the world.

And that is exactly my point: What you need to become a world traveler is a passion and the guts to follow that passion around the globe.

It really doesn’t matter what kind of passion that is. Maybe you get a kick out of discovering new places, surfing the longest waves like me, eating bizarre foods or meeting new people. Maybe it makes you feel cool walking around a tiny village in the jungle, backpack on your shoulders and sweat dripping down your forehead. Whatever your passion may be, give it wings and you’re soon finding yourself traveling all over the world following your inner passion

Now think about what gives you a kick in life and share your passion with us in the comments.

  1. Hey Marco,

Thank you for the Nice Read!

I love learning new things, especially sports. This is my passion. I love the feeling of being able to learn and perform very well in my new found sport. Now, I am on my way to learn my second martial art,”Muay Thai” Cheers!

    • Aloha Armand,

I totally agree with you: Life is about learning new things. And I think one learns a million new things when traveling the world.

How is your Martial arts training going? I’m more of a Jui Juitsu guy…

      Cheers,
      Marco

      • Been treating me very well.

After my first day of training, I found a very time writing, typings and even holding anything for two days, my hand was numbed from all the punching I did.

Btw, How often do you travel?

          Hey Armand!

I can totally relate to the long recovery times after coming home from Martial Arts training…ha ha ha.

I travel a lot. Mostly because I have family in Germany, Thailand and Hawai’i. Plus great friends all over the place. Right now I am on an around the world trip having a blast! How about you, how often do you travel? Any upcoming plans?

      Wonderful explanation.

I was so scared after reading the title that this was going to be one of those “buy this ebook or pay $100 for this travel blog guide course’ type of posts. Thank god it wasn’t. You are so right, you just need the passion and the true love of travel. For me, it’s the passion for food, drink, and making funny and crazy memories!

    • Hey Scott,
I’m glad I only scared you with my headline…writing an ebook on that topic and advertising it on a shoestring travel blog would be missing the point in my opinion.

I do plan to put up a short and free ebook in exchange for a subscription to my site site though. Let me know if you’re interested in a copy…obviously I’d give one of my top commenters a version hot off the press :)

      Take care buddy!
