One of my goals with this website is to get you traveling, exploring and experience what life has to offer; looking for opportunities beyond your regular office job and try something new, radical or mind-blowing. After all I just heard that one of my cousins moved to Bangkok after talking to me about all the places I lived, worked and played. Way to go!
In that spirit, what’s better than introducing a few of the many cities I traveled to in the new “City Flick” series. Maybe a few of you will do the same as my cousin and go explore this beautiful world.
Here we go introducing the coolest city on earth: Buenos Aires.
Ever been to new York and noticed that everyone around you has a mission and is chasing a dream, felt all the energy around, ground vibrating from Subways underneath, and hot shoots all around you. Liked it?
Well, Buenos Aires is much like that, with the exception that everyone around you seems to be chasing a good time. Talking to friends on the street, having a drink in the many bars and dancing a spontaneous tango on the street. People enjoy life, drink their Mate tee and have a great time.
So let’s get started with the top five things to do in Buenos Aires:
Take a Tango Lesson
No excuses here, just do it and try your best. You’re in the Tango City of the world and cannot miss out on this experience. I never had any formal dance lessons, have literally now feeling for rhythm and a basketball player like coordination. So if I can do it, so can you. Afterwards, enjoy the dance performances of all the good couples on one if the many public plazas while drinking a cold beer to cool down after all that dancing you just did.
Rent a bike and explore
Buenos Aires is a big city and distances are far. Going by Subway is fast but you’re missing out on a ton of the action. So get on a bike and kick the pedals up and down the solid bike highway system that runs all across town, ride through the nature reserve to escape the city for a bit and reward yourself with a big steak afterwards. It is a great way to see the city.
Go out and party
Don’t make the beginner mistake and leave early (like I did). Rather, have a late evening nap – until midnight that is – get up and go for a drink on the plaza and hit the clubs around two in the morning. Just seeing everyone having a great time sitting outside is worth it.
Visit the Antique Market in San Telmo
Having all the young artists, designers, and cool cats come together to sell their creations can only make for a good market with spectacular bargains. Think: leather jackets, shoes, everything quirky, hip and cool. Spice the whole scene up with a bunch of hipsters, artists and weirdos and you can snap some great pics on top of it. That is if your hands are free from carrying all those bags filled with stuff you just bought.
Explore the Tigre District
Hop on a boat and get lost in the millions of canals that zigzag through tranquil green swampland. While you’re at it, why not make it all the way to Montevideo in Uruguay and chase the biggest steak you have ever seen at the Mercado del Este. Come hungry, order the half portion and plead with the grill master to please give you a smaller piece. Yes, the portions are that big!
